well, in theory Lupita held a "different" pageant to crown Marilyn Chagoya this year... so... Let's see if it was enough for Julia... Because it wasn't transmited by TV, only livestream...

And about the thing that Mexico need to send more ethnic and representative beauties not only doll faced girls... Well... maybe you should visit Mexico someday to be able to appreciate all the variety of beauties we have due to all the mixes available in the whole country... Those girls represent 100% the type of beauty we have as a country, because all of us here are mixed in one or another way... We can not send an Indigenous looking girl without looking somehow mixed... Like Yessica Meza for example, very native american face...

My personal favorite of all times is no other than CAROLINA MORAN... In my eyes she is STUNNING and yeah, she represents perfectly the typical Mexican type of beauty in women...

This is year Lupe is sending a "not that usual" one to compete... Let's see how it results...

Nice thread!

Of the 62 editions of Miss Word only 22 of its winners are members of the British Commonwealth of Nations. The other 40 are from non-Commonwealth countries including the Venezuela, Iceland or even USA. It so happens that former British colonies are the countries that have historically stuck with Miss World and sent the most competitive candidates.

Anyway you take it, every pageant has its niche and preferences some cater to the latinos others to Asians and some are Euro-centric. Its not the end of the world. People will gravitate to organisations were they are favored or where they are more likely to succeed.

Thanks for the input.

Yeah I noticed that Marilyn has some Amerindian features. So Marilyn was indeed crowned in a separate pageant. What's it called then?

Success in Miss Universe doesn't always mean success in Miss World and vice versa. These pageants are really worlds apart. I believe that might be the reason why Julia Morley is asking for a different pageant for the Miss World delegates. Another forumer here from Mexico shared here that their Miss World rep was crowned in a separate, untelevised pageant and has somehow Amerindian features. Hmmm, I guess the 3 countries are already heeding Julia's request. Let's see ow it goes later this year.

Lisa Hanna is part Lebanese, her surname is from the Lebanese immigrants who came later in the 19th century fleeing religious persecution from the Muslim Turks.

"However, Colombia has always focused on the beauty aspect of the competition and not so much in the Beauty with a Purpose aspect."

That's absolutelly right. The org that has the MW franchise for Colombia sucks big time, never prepare the girls for the competition and the final event is everything but decent, tacky and cheap to the max, such a shame.

That, added to the fact that MW is not popular in Colombia at all, Miss Universe is more popular, but people are more interested in Miss Colombia than in other international pageants.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah all of the 3 countries had 3 common major shortcoming: the Beauty with a Purpose campaign or lack of it. [-O<

You've had very close brushes with the MW crown as well, especially with Carolina Arango. I love that woman so much especially her beauty, her grace and her empathic answer to the final question. :=p :=p

Throwback!
Philippines won the pageant. Megan ended the Philippines' long journey for that elusive blue crown.
So it is between Colombia (main feature), Mexico (main feature), Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Korea, Croatia, Aruba, Angola, Wales, Botswana and Romania were left among the countries who finished at least one 1st runner up vying for the elusive Miss World crown.

I won't be surprised if Colombia will be the next in line. They have had a Mr. World already as well.

Update: Mexico won Miss World 5 years after Philippines won the title. So only Colombia left without a crown but they have 4 second place (runner-up to Miss World) finishes.
