In a recent Sky News Arabia article about the condition of beauty contests in Algeria, former Miss Algeria 2018 Nihed Markria made the following controversial revelation:
“At the time of my crowning as Miss Algeria I thought I had achieved my biggest dream. I gave up so much to win that title and compete at Miss World, including my education. But if I went back in time I would not have done that.”
She adds on: “Despite becoming Miss Algeria, I remained unemployed for a long time so I decided to go back to school and focus on my professional career”.
Nihed currently works as a reporter for a private TV channel in Algeria.
Nihed was registered to compete at Miss World 2018 but her participation was annulled on the day before her departure to Sanya, for undisclosed reason. She then went on to compete at Miss Multinational 2018 in India, achieving a second runner-up finish.
The BWAP that she prepared for Miss World was the founding of “Beauty Speaks for Charity”, a NPO aimed to support and emphasis the importance of charity work within the Algerian pageant scene.
