More Outputs on social media = Better Chances of Winning Miss Universe?

Postby ajsy0203 » Sun Feb 07, 2021 10:35 am

Few months before 69th Miss Universe will commence, several girls already posted lots of glam shots, advocacy activities and online chats on social media. But is it enough to convince the judges that you are worthy to take the job and the title of Miss Universe?

The more outputs on social media (glam photoshoots & advocacy activities), the better chances of winning the Miss Universe crown and title. Agree or Disagree?

Common sense, esep-esep din minsan? No offense!

Even if the members of the selection panel will have been identified and announced publicly, none of them would have the luxury of time to dwell and follow up on the social media accounts of these girls, individually. Most, if not all, of them privileged individuals are busy with their respective persona or professional calling and to assume them doing that, to me, seems whimsical and outright capricious.

Who says it's part of the finale judges' mandate to go after the personal background of these girls, I want to be clarified? These distinguished personalities would have not been chosen nor received emoluments to pursue the furtive role of private or documentary investigators. Agree or disagree?

I will disagree on this, no assurance if you put all your extra curricular activities on social media that automatically awards you with the crown. You need to compete on Finals Night with the other girls. An exception to this, Miss International organization judges the girls to all pageant activities on the actual competition. I don't know with Miss Universe organization on how they observe the girls. The same thing with Miss World. I am referring to social media "pasabog".

Iris confirmed it a long time ago. They look at the candidates' social media accounts all the time!

Do never forget that MUO is a brand, and a brand needs a few things to live and grow:
-sponsors.
-ads.
-people to buy what they are selling.

Clearly, the more followers you have and the more appealing your feed is, the better. The girls aren't just Misses anymore, they become influencers and must sell products.
So when you become Miss Universe, you already have a strong following base which is better for sponsors.

Iris came in with a strong following, and as usual so do the girls from the Philippines, Venezuela, Thailand and USA.

There were super popular queens (influencers) with large following being ignored (unplaced).

IDK how Miss Universe is going to be held this time because of the pandemic, but selling tickets isn't one of the goals no more.

Isn't it the standard protocol for the members of the judging panel to refrain from and not interact with the girls indirectly or directly because they're mandated by the MUO to have nothing to do with the delegates at all so as to remain objective? Isn't it a part of the judge' responsibility to remain anonymous until their individual identity is announced publicly?

I'm curious because I've always assumed that judging Ms Universe shouldn't be partial or non-biased by whatever means.

Well said, but I do think it's a factor. It's obviously not part of the score, but I think it adds to your overall presentation and appeal. Again, as far as I know, they don't have a category that ranks the girls based on their social media popularity or how active they are, but I'm pretty sure a lot of opinions are formed based on what they put out. And trust me, the organizations do look.

Lara Dutta griped about this a few years back and I thought she was dead wrong then. Media attention gets you far in the competition.

When you're interviewing someone for a job, would you hire someone who was as mysterious when they walked in to when they walked out of the interview or someone who came in transparent and told you what they had to offer and how they can be an asset to the company? Personally, I'd almost always hire the latter. Using social media platform, these girls are essentially baring their heart and soul for the world to see and based on that, they're either liked or dumped! If you're telling me that that doesn't influence their chances (not saying they'll win) or POTENTIALLY placing or winning, you need a reality check.

I totally perfectly entirely wholly completely definitely certainly absolutely AGREE. Social Media is the thing of today. Pre historic oldies rely on newspapers and radios. Unlike today, SOCIAL MEDIA will make you or break you.

I BELIEVE IT SHOULD NOT,WHO IS THE BEST IN PERSON AND ON STAGE SHOULD WIN,SOCIAL MEDIA IS FAKE AND UNREAL,A STRONG FOLLOWING ON SOCIAL MEDIA DOES NOT REFLECT THE PERSON QUALITY AND ABILITY ,LIKE FAKE PHOTOSHOP,FAKE EYES CONTACT ETC, IT HELPS BUT FOR ME IF IT IS A FAIR JUDGMENT THE PRESENCE ON STAGE SHOULD MAKE OR BREAK.

I think we're saying the same thing, but if the competition was objective then it wouldn't even matter. Because it's very subjective, it'll give a girl a huge edge on top of the sash. That's another one that we always talk about - the power of the sash! If you've noticed, a breakthrough country, if they continue to play their cards right, will always be part of the conversation. Thailand mastered the art of media and sponsor pandering. That was Japan during their heyday. Hell, their candidates slept with Miss Universe photographers and made sex tapes. Philippines has been the subject of ridicule in the last decade with haters saying that the country applies the same tactics but I sincerely believe that the country's success is largely because they put in the effort to overhaul the way they trained the girls and we've sent strong candidates who deserved their placements. I think the Philippines revolutionized the game and we set the bar high not only for ourselves, but for the entire pageant community whether you like to admit it or not. Haters are gonna hate and I get it, but they know it too.

It does play a role, but not a significant role. For one, a contestant from the Philippines is naturally gonna have more followers than a contest from Trinidad and Tobago. That should lessen heir chances. And some countries take pageants more seriously as well. At the end of the day, the girls will be judged on interview, SS and EG during the preliminaries. So that is what it's all about.

So while it may play a small role in a contestant getting to the Top 20, after a girl reaches the Top 20, it will be all based on what they do on stage that night. The judges, I'm sure, wont be scrolling through IG, Twitter, Tik Tok accounts to help them determine who should get to the Top 10, Top 5, or win the crown. Social media is never a true reflection of who the women are. The interviews is most important. Make a great impression there, and if the judges love u, it heightens the chances of the country delegate getting a better score in EG and SS and throughout the rest of the competition. No way the judges are keeping tabs on the ladies' social media accounts on the big night.
