Miss Universe 2021 Hopes

Postby samsie0104 » Sat May 16, 2020 10:52 am

Most likely there won't be Miss Universe 2020 edition and we should all look forward to 2021 instead.

New decade, Hopefully, a different format of choosing the winner. Relive the 90's era and early 2000's production.

2019 Miss Universe edition was the worst of the decade in terms of production and quality of girls in the top 10 and the winner. It was FORGETTABLE I must say. Under IMG, Only 2015 edition was at par with the Trump production.

I hope in 2021 IMG will re think about the format. Too much time has been allocated for candidates to talk. Why don't they go back to the 90's format where they had 3 set of interviews and through that we already knew who was the best speaker and has a personality amongst the finalist. In my opinion, this year's winner is not as marketable as previous winners so I have a feeling they will look for a more modelesque winner next edition. Hopefully, no more Steve Harvey and Lu Sierra as a side commentator. I like the honest reviews of Shandy Finnesey and Susie Castillo on their youtube channel and I hope to see them doing it for the actual pageant. or Maye Shandy and Catriona Gray.

Hope the format will be like this

Top 15- No more continent based. And scrap the interview with Steve Harvey after they are called. Too Scripted and it's not even funny. Allocate the time for Swimsuit and Gown instead.

Scrap the Speech part- Sit down interview instead. More spontaneous and shows more of their personality. No fake advocacies.

Cut to Top 10- to compete in Gown and Swimsuit (these girls have trained for 1-2 years with their pasarela and worked hard to achieve those bodies, give them at least 2 minutes to show it)

Top 5 interview.

Top 3

Top 3 Final Q&A

The best final look I have seen so far was Miss Universe 2015 wit Seal and Miss Universe 2016 with Backstreet Boys.

No more Top 3 final speech please. They had enough of talking for F sake it's a Beauty Pageant!!

But then again, It's just me. Just a Pageant Fan Hoping for more entertaining show. After all, it's 80% Entertainment.

Zozibini is as arketable as Catriona can be it's just unfortunate that her reign has been struck b a Global Pandemic which is out of her control! we cant blame her for that!

Miss Universe 2019 edition was the worst in terms of production but the results is fair and well deserved!

I strongly disagree that it was the worst edition in terms of the top 10.

The Top 10 was not the problem, and while I don't like the winner she is not the problem, the biggest problem is IMG's lack of vision to market their queens and their obsession with becoming a Miss America/Miss World hybrid. They are broke so the problem is they don't have many options but to sell during 2020 or forcefeed a 2020 edition in order to cash-in on the franchise fee of the 90+ countries. If I was in charge I'd appoint someone for the 2020 title and let them co-reign until 2021, the moment of crowning someone over a video chat (a quality video) and having both queens take the final walk in the 2021 pageant would be super viral on social media (which is my choice for all pageants). But Miss Universe can't really afford to have an extra queen on the payroll either, so their only option is making the pageant because they can't even afford to leave the 2020 title vacant either. Most pageants have several options, but they don't have the economic challenges MUO has.

IMG wouldn't be able to market Zozibini, Madison, Sofia, Gabriela, Jennifer, Kelin, Cheslie, Maeva, Frederika, Birta, Cindy, Fig or Geraldine; they would have stuck anyone on that apartment. Pandemic or not.

We have seen the last staging of Miss Universe. Too bad the pageant closed out without so much as a toot. Worst edition. And with one of the worst winners as well.

Compare it to the Top 10 of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 IMG Edition. Only France and Iceland were a stand out.

In my opinion, Zozi is the worst Miss Universe ever. The title should have gone to Puerto Rico.

I still don't understand how they left Ireland out with one of the best platforms, was she the most beautiful? Not necessarily but its obvious it doesnt matter anymore and Ive seen worst preliminary choices.

There were more black judges. Yes, there were 2 Latina judges but their votes were split to two other Latina finalists. Thus the black contestant won.

yeah. I don't understand it as well. She has a very strong platform.

I hate to say this but Zozi is one of the least attractive Miss Universe winners ever. I get it that it is her brand, you know the whole "her type of face is also beautiful" monologue and MUO really embraced that because they are trying to move away from the typical beauty pageant faces. They really are trying to kill Miss Universe. lol
Everything is so finite. But don't you think that that's what makes our time, at specific moments, so important?

The same was said when Mpule won in 1999, with major favs Miss Puerto Rico, Venezuela, T&T being left out. 21 years later, no Miss Universe cannot outdo the legacy Mpule set, she's not active on instagram but her revolutionary work regarding health, agriculture, global leadership impacted so many young men and women. Zozi will be a boss woman like her I'm sure.

Advocacy legacy aside, most people still believe Mpule is not beautiful just saying. Nobody is denying the impact Zozi's advocacy and win has for not only black women but also non-traditional fans.

The thread-starter is mentioning about the lack of quality of top 10 and winner this year (production is indeed poor though), I was disagreeing with him how he describes quality.

Even with beauty aspect, the standards of beauty are always evolving, during medieval times, women without eyebrows and blue skin were considered beautiful, in eastern culture hairy woman, petite woman were considered beautiful in the early 20th century, would you agree with that in today's society in terms of beauty concept? Beauty norms are being created by representation in the media, during 90's and trump era, the glamazon beauties prevail, as women like Amelia Vega, Dayana Mendoza, Jennifer Hawkins fits the bill. These days you would notice beauty is more about relatability, thus women like Zozi,Toni Ann won.

It is only us pageant fans, who are very skeptical about superficial beauty and constantly criticizing that she's not pretty enough, hot enough, bashing her left and right on social media, whereas common folks are appreciating the direction pageants are taking these days.

If history taught us one thing, when someone breaks stereotype, the world uproars.

They call it Miss Universe because the title holder's beauty and attributes are universally appreciated, no matter the standard or measuring stick. If we have to wait 21 years to appreciate Zozi, she should have joined in 2041.

But Zozi's problem is not her physical beauty. She became Miss Universe because MUO was allegedly looking for a "spokesperson". Come to find out, she's the most reticent and inconsequential Miss Universe EVER.

I'm telling you, having an all-women panel of judges does not work. Especially when the women judges are insecure liberal know-it-alls who do not want anyone prettier than them. That's how you end up with winners like Miss USA 2019 and Zozi.

There was no reason for Zozi to win, especially when Miss Mexico and Miss Puerto Rico were standing right beside her, who were both regal, resplendent, and equally loquacious. Maybe they would have been more active and sensible in social media during the lockdown.

I think they should do what they did in the 90s ans 80s doing a mini q&a after being called into the top 20/15 and being scored. Having 20 girls speak one after the other gets boring but giving a break for suspense to see who is called next amps it up. And no Steve Harvey! He's so disrespectful! If IMG is so into woman power and having an all woman judging table why dont they have a woman hosting? 8-} What about Olivia Culpo hosting? Cecelia Bolocco? Daisy Fuentes?

In an ideal world, Tamaryn Green would have been a perfect Miss Universe 2019. Let's be honest, Beauty Pageant is and should always focus more on physical beauty especially in this Social Media crazy world.

Just because Zozi is not your cup of tea doesn't make her a bad winner. Pinoys and Puerto Ricans are definitely united in bashing her but I love how she has so much class and she knows that she doesn't need to please the fanatics.

Please do not generalize, because none of my issues with last year's edition equates to me saying she is a bad winner.
