I think it's because Catriona changed the landscape of pageantry especially in the history of Miss Universe. She came to Bangkok not as a candidate but as a pageant superstar complete with her arsenal of novel approaches that we never saw before in any pageant. She had her wardrobe with distinct Philippine trademarks despite their contemporary designs; made three cohesive videos that dissected the three major islands in the Philippines before she showcased her national costume; created a song video of her advocacy; and, above all, Catriona came as an independent candidate devoid of any camp affiliation but chose to form her own creative team. Name a previous beauty queen who did these things that Catriona did and none will ever come to anyone's mind. She stunned all pageant aficionados, beauty queens and former winners, and national directors of other countries especially the Latin communities because for decades, these Latin countries dominated the pageant scene with their time-tested formulae. Unfortunately, Catriona changed it all and proved them wrong once and for all. She slapped them with new ideas outside the conventional box of pageantry that worked so effectively and efficiently. Indeed, Catriona was an alpha female who will always remain as an ideal candidate whom other countries will only dream to have that will always and forever remain that way. "Bravo, Catriona! Mabuhay, Philippines!"
