Even at Miss Universe I don't know how true this is, but I heard that there was a Colombian judge on the panel who was scoring Sush low in every round, but the other judges saw something in her & she obviously won. Just goes to show even if there's so many forces conspiring against you, but when its meant for YOU nobody can take it away from you.

Just like in Femina, she was an underdog during Miss Universe '94 who shone during the prelims and stole the thunder from the front-runners during the finals.
That she spoke and answered with substance during the interviews shifted the Filipinos' support for her from the South-americans and even from Charlene.

Back in those days, what mattered are how the contestants performed in front of the judges during the preliminaries, not press coverage. In my opinion, Sushmita faced more stiff competition at Miss Universe than Aish at Miss World. I think Carolina Gomez could've beat Aish at Miss Universe as I doubt Aish was able to come up with such a profound and sincere answer as Sushmita.

When THAT they didn't work out, they tried to sent Aish to Miss Universe by using this passport issue as an excuse, instead of offering to help Sushmita to sort it out. They just won't quit.
