Are African NDs losing interest in Miss Universe due to South Africa?

Postby ajsy0203 » Wed Jan 20, 2021 11:56 pm

As of this writing, there are only 3 African delegates will compete at the upcoming Miss Universe. Other than the pandemic, do you think the strong performance of South Africa (3 straight Top 2 finishes) caused the other African nations started to lose interest at Miss Universe? Do you think the unfair grouping with Asia Pacific was also the reason?

What are you talking about? South Africa's overall performance in pageantry throughout the decade, especially Miss Universe, is unquestionable even with all the shifts in ownership, pageant formats and groupings. If an ND lost interest because of SA's performance in pageants, well that reflects poorly on them.

Besides, you seriously cannot expect other nations to send pageant girls in the middle of the pandemic. Economies are hit badly throughout the globe. People are getting sick everywhere. Let nations prioritize themselves before they could even think of conducting pageants. Also, there's only 66 candidates so far for this year compared to 90 candidates in 2019. Obviously, the numbers are down throughout all continents.

Side note:

I know that many wise men would say "question everything." But maybe this is a little too much with questions like these.

As of the moment only 3 candidates from Africa were confirmed to compete at 69th Miss Universe.

You're right but other African nations like Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, etc. already announced their possible delegates in other international pageants.

I think MGBN org. hasn't announced their delegate for 69th Miss Universe. Possibly theory is they can't appointed Nyekachi Douglas as Nigeria's representative to Miss Universe because her contract with MWO (continental winners signed contract with MWO in recent editions as BWAP ambassadors) hasn't released or expired unlike the case of Klara which her contract with MEO ended after the virtual coronation show last November 29, 2020?

I THINK IT IS JUST THE PANDEMIC, NOT THAT THEY ARE LOSING INTEREST.

1. It’s pandemic

2. SA favoritism is no joke although SA send the best girls

3. And other African countries send mediocre girls most of the times. So they clapping hard.

I think that’s why

As of this writing, only 4 confirmed African candidates at 69th Miss Universe, the latest was Cameroon.

The latest African queen to enter a semifinal slot is Miss Earth South Africa Lungo Katete. If the pageant is not virtual she could have placed higher.

IN 2019, THERE ARE 10 AFRICAN COUNTRIES IN MISS UNIVERSE, 9 COUNTRIES IN 2018

IN MISS EARTH 2019 THERE ARE 14 AFRICAN COUNTRIES, 11 COUNTRIES IN 2018

IN MISS INTERNATIONAL 2019 THERE ARE 15 AFRICAN COUNTRIES

PERSONALLY I DO NOT THINK IT IS BECAUSE OF SOUTH AFRICA. ONE POSSIBLE FACTOR: FRANCHISE FEES - WE ALL KNOW MISS UNIVERSE IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE

ADD TO THAT THERE ARE USUALLY A MAXIMUM OF 2 AFRICANS PLACING IN THE SEMIS, COMPARED TO MISS EARTH WHICH ALSO PLACES 2 AFRICANS (BUT IN 2020 THERE ARE 4), I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF AFRICAN ND IS LOSING INTEREST
