Miss Universe Colombia on transgenders

Postby ajsy0203 » Wed Jun 10, 2020 11:51 pm

What is your reaction about transgenders with legally female status are ineligible to compete at Miss Universe Colombia under its new management?

Not every country has the law that will legalize transgenders into legally female in their documents.

I believe that if you wanna have a franchise in a pro-trans pageants, shouldn't you be compatible with the pageant?

As a transgender myself, I respect Miss Universe Colombia's decision. I remember in 2012 when this was sensationalized with Jenna Talackova joining Miss Universe Canada. MUO said it doesn't have to be compulsory or a-must for all franchises (because personally I believe each countries' beliefs & practices/religion would always play a role). Even Miss Universe Philippines doesn't accept transgender women and it's perfectly fine for us transgenders here. I do respect that for Miss Universe Colombia.

Well, we have to dig first if the government of Colombia recognizes transgenders legally as women or not.

I'm not against with transwoman but they should not participate in any beauty pageant for women. Whether laws may be created for defining them as a woman, but we cannot deny and defy the fact that their origin is a man.

Hi, Dear. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but I felt like your comment is trying to send a message that the MUP org purposely does not accept transgender contestants here in the Philippines, because they have cultural/religious biases. Regardless, I would like to provide another perspective on the matter. I can't remember which interview it was, But Jonas Gaffud already mentioned before that the reason why MUPh Org does not accept transgender contestants is because there is NO LAW in the country that would provide legal documentation and identification for trans women in the country. The US, Spain, Canada, and other (mostly European) countries accept trans women contestants because laws that acknowledge gender identity reassignments already exists and are currently in place, which provide legal basis and recognition to the manhood/womanhood of trans people. Here in the Ph we don't have that yet. That's why we need to be more active in campaigning for laws that would finally provide these legalities. Pag meron na, most likely MUPh will also allow them to join na.

Unfortunately the congress in the Philippines is not prioritizing the law yet and even if Pres. Duterte or his successor will sign that law or the enrolled bill became law without the president's signature, the Catholic Church or any group that will oppose the law might challenge it to the Supreme Court. So allowing the transgenders with legally female status to compete at Miss Universe Philippines in the near future is a long way to go.

It appears Colombia has allowed their transgender citizens since 2015 to change their identifications, and the national director said in a livestream that they will "probably" accept transgenders in the pageant at another year but not this one.

Angela stays on our neck at all times lol

For me personally I have no issues with transgendered women competing in MCU but it’s not up to me

If Natalie has said dat she will let them compete in da future let’s see if she keeps her promise.

I think the House of Representatives and Senate will not prioritize the any bills that will support the legal document of transgenders into legally female as of now unless Jonas Gaffud will dare to talk with President Duterte about it and placed the SOGIE Bill and Right to change legal gender as urgent before Miss Universe Philippines 2021?
