While I am very optimistic that Mouawad will make a stunning crown (Some of their pieces look STUNNING, plus they have some world records like the world's most expensive bra) I am somewhat tired of Miss Universe always changing their crowns. Don't you think that for being the top beauty pageant in the world you would have a timeless crown that has been used for decades? I guess the closest thing that we are ever going to get to a timeless crown would be the Sarah Coventry crown.

I am also very sad to say goodbye once again to my favorite crown, The Mikimoto crown. F to pay respects.

If I was IMG, I would request a crown that can only be used during the crowning moments and a much less expensive replica version that can be used for photoshoots, events, and as a souvenir for the winner to have and take home. But a replica that actually looks like the crown, not a completely different version (like Mikimoto or The Peace crown)

Other than that, I can't wait to see what the crowns will look like. And even though it is very unlikely it will happen, I wouldn't be surprised if Mouawad decide to go above and beyond and break the world record for the most valuable tiara (which according to Guinness Book of World Records, the record for the world's most valuable tiara is currently held by Versace with an estimated retail value of 5 million dollars)

Eh. Nothing can beat the Mikimoto for being an ICON. Next to the Rhinestone crown, it was the longest used crown, and undoubtedly, the most beautiful.

I think Mikimoto refused to repair the crown after it fell apart in Cat's homecoming here in the Philippines. MUO's agreement with MIkimoto prolly already ended last 2011 already, as the agreement between them is only a decade. It's just that with the DNL and the DIC fiascoes, MUO has no fallback crown but the Mikimoto, which was just staying in the company's vault. When Pia wore it in her final photoshoot, its still lopsided on the top, but they were able to restore it to its best shape until it gave up on Cat on her homecoming parade.

I just hope they stick this company LIKE, FOREVER. And it better be a good design. ENOUGH OF FRUIT BOWLS OR FRENCH FRIES PLEASE!

Fun facts, Cat's reign has always been associated to new crowns.
1. She was the last Miss World Philippines to wear the red generic crown of Miss World Philippines.
2. She was the first Miss World Philippines to pass on a new crown to Laura Lehman, which was also changed.
3. She was the first MUP to wear the better and current looking MUP crown.
4. She'll be the last winner (we'll see) to wear the iconic Mikimoto crown during the finale night that she won.
5. She will wear and pass the first Mouawad crown.

Anyway, the 2020 MUO queens will be very lucky. They will get replica/tiara versions of their crowns.

When the Mikimoto crown broke during Catriona's homecoming, I had this weird gut feeling that this was the last time we were ever going to see the Mikimoto crown again. I of course went into immediate denial, saying that the crown that Cat's wearing is a replica. But when they uploaded the video with Catriona explaining how the crown broke, I then knew that it was the real deal or else they wouldn't have made that video. But even with the announcement of a new crown, I still have a couple of questions.

1. Is the Mikimoto crown fixed?: Unless I am blind and it has already been addressed, I have a strong feeling that the Mikimoto crown is still broken. Maybe it is fixed and MUO is taking precautions so that it never breaks again by not letting Catriona wear it to any events. But if that was the case then they should take precautions for all three of the crowns, not just one.

2. Was the Mikimoto crown a temporary thing to begin with?: I think MUO was either too lazy to find another sponsor and make another set of crowns, or they were still looking for sponsors. However if that was the case, does it really take more than two years to find a sponsor? I believe if the Mikimoto crown didn't break, they would still be using the Mikimoto crowns for Miss Universe 2019/2020.

3. Will they give out crowns to Demi and Catriona?: I don't know if DIC gave out souvenir crowns to their winners, Paulina, Pia, and Iris, but since Demi and Catriona wore the Mikimoto crowns during their reign, do they not get anything for winning Miss Universe? Hopefully the MUO would at least give them a souvenir version of the new crown.

1. Probably not. An insider in instagram said that the one she used in crowning Gazini is a poorly made copy. It really looks off in TV, its very weird. The last time I think we saw the real Mikimoto crown was when she attended Puteri Indonesia.

2. I think so too. The DNL deal was supposedly a decade but then MUO signed DIC to make another one. Iris wore both the crowns in different times, so I think when things went south for DIC, the DNL and the Mikimoto crowns were the fall back crowns, its just that the DNL probably felt bad for being cast aside when DIC came in, so they probably pulled off their crown off MUO too. I think finding a sponsor is very hard for beauty pageants nowadays specially with how much the production costs are, and how much the deal was with a very renowed brand - MUO - it would be, plus the modern society isnt as receptive to beauty pageants anymore, I think MUO really struggled to find a good marketing team they can collab with and here they are.

3. No. I don't think Demi and Cat received tiaras. The last winner afaik to receive a Mikimoto tiara was Riyo Mori and Ines Ligron took it away from her as if its her own. Dayana kept the CAO crown as a gift from the Vietnamese government/sponsor so thats that. Usually the tiara makes an apperance to out of US trips of the Miss Universe, during the not so official ones, but no, I don't think they recieve one. Dayana crowned the Miss Russia 2009 with the real crown, so I don't think she recieved one too.

Although i do love the Mikimoto crown. I think IMG should have stick to the old crown of Miss Universe. The Rhinestone crown was the symbol of Miss Universe since the beginning. It was such a timeless crown. If i were them i should have redesign it in such a way that it will fit the new era of the millennium.

I think all of you would agree with me that no one beats the old Miss Universe crown. It was such an ICONIC crown and very Miss Universe, even none pageant aficionados can easily distinguish that she is/was a Miss Universe. I hope one day they will realise that...

Hands off to Miss World and Miss International for keeping the traditions. Although i dont like the way they present their respective pageant, but i commend them for keeping their symbols.

The CROWN is a symbol of HISTORY and LEGACY.

CAO the Dayana's clumsy crown,
DNL the Dick suckiN Lips crown,
DICk the French Fries crown were disaster!

The new crown sponsor needs to make crowns like

1) SIMPLE AND ICONIC CROWN
Unlike CAO, DNL, DIC crown. Like Mikimoto.
Miss Universe needs THE ICONIC crown.

2) FIRM, STRONG CROWN THAT NOT FRAGILE
Mikimoto and DNL were fragile as f**k. If the new crown is firm and strong, the new sponsor doesn't have to fix it.

3) MAKE THE TIARA VERSION REPLICA FOR THE WINNER
They need a replica. The new sponsor should make a tiara replica for the winner every year.

4) 3 CROWNS
1 main crown, 1 replica for winner's reign, 1 tiara replica for the winner.

Im annoyed of this constant crown change, four different crowns used within the same decade??

At least this designer appears to be legit and high end, but I just wish they would just stick to the Mikimoto. Its iconic and the ultimate symbol of the MUO.
