“If you embrace nature with all your heart, then you are on the right track in life”. During this environmental shoot, we made use of music as a symbol of caring to give good growth for plants. As an advocate for Urban Gardening, it really does take effort to retain them. You have to love, care and have solicitude for them like they’re your own children.
Here are some tips to help you retain your growing plants. THESE ARE THE BASIC MUST KNOWS for them to survive.
1. Watering: A lot of people tend to overwater their plants. Make sure you know how much water your plants need. Ask a professional, do a quick search on the Internet or consult the instructions you were given when you purchased the plant. Too much water can cause the roots to rot, which will eventually kill your plants. On the contrary, if you do not sufficiently water your plants, they will probably suffer. Use your finger to check the soil's moisture level. When a plant's leaves start to wilt, it is a clear sign it's time to water.
2. Drainage holes: Drainage plays a crucial role in the quality of your plant's soil. If there are no holes at the bottom of the container, drill a few. This way, excess water can run off.
3. Light: We all know light is of capital importance to plants. As with water, too much or not enough can be a problem. Therefore, it is important to make sure you know how much light your plants need to optimize growing conditions. Required light levels are almost always indicated when buying a plant.
4. Re-potting: If your plant's roots come out through the drainage holes, it's time to re-pot. Choose a slightly larger pot so your plant can continue to grow. When re-potting, trim the roots a little and clean them from soil using a pencil or stick. Also, replace surface soil with fresh product.
5. Take good care of your plants! For example, spray their leaves with water or clean them from time to time to promote growth. With good drainage, good light, good soil and the right amount of fresh water, your plants will be happy!
As someone who loves the heat of the island and roughing it up in the waves, one of the activities I’m most looking forward to post-pandemic is definitely returning to the beach - and I’m sure a lot of my fellow Filipinos feel the same way!
However, whenever I take a trip out of the metro, I ensure that I continue to make sustainable choices, one of which is staying at eco-friendly accommodations.
An eco hotel, or a green hotel, is an environmentally sustainable hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the natural environment.
The particular hostel that I’m showcasing in this photo is made from recycled shipping containers stacked on top of each other! How cool is that! It’s also space-efficient, filled with plants, and minimizes use of air conditioning. Not only that, but their bathrooms use soap dispensers intentionally to minimize disposal of single-use sachets!
As we all dream of our next getaway, let’s also plan ahead on how we can promote sustainable tourism during our adventures!

Miss Philippines Earth six pix 1.0MISS PHILIPPINES EARTH: Atimonan, Quezon | Shane Tormes
Shane is my winner right now. She is not the most beautiful eco-angel, but she is the most engaging among the ladies. Her previous experience in MPE 2017 and Bb. Pilipinas 2018 and 2019 will surely help her in the Miss Earth pageant if ever she will be crowned. I just love her fighting spirit. I really hope she wins.
MISS PHILIPPINES AIR: Baguio City | Roxie Baeyens
It's not a secret to everyone that she had represented the Philippines in an international pageant last year, and I really do think she is the rightful winner that time. I love Roxie's beauty, she's charismatic and gorgeous. I don't mind if she wins it all.
MISS PHILIPPINES WATER: Mandaluyong City | Gianna Llanes
She is definitely one of my sentimental favorites. I love her smile. I hope she has a great personality. She can talk, and easily can be the spokesperson of the Miss Earth brand.
MISS PHILIPPINES FIRE: Daraga, Albay | Patrixia Santos
Being a pageant veteran, it is no doubt that she will do good in the final night. But, my gut tells me that she will only settle for an elemental crown.
MISS PHILIPPINES ECO-TOURISM: Manila | Justiene Ortega
She is a cutesy at 26 years old. She has a meek face like an angel. I believe she was robbed in Miss World Philippines 2019 because her performance was a show stopper, and for that I believe she is a contender for the Miss Earth crown.
RUNNER-UP: Fil-Com of Melbourne, Australia | Ilyssa Mendoza
I believe she is fierce and sexy. I just hope she will be more active in her social media. This girl has potential. She is the dark horse of the competition.
Let us all witness the #MissPhilippinesEarth2020 most awaited prejudging of Fitness, Form, and Poise. The official video will be out on June 6, 2020 (Saturday) at 8:00 o'clock in the evening.

MPE will be aired on GMA 7 on july 5.
