Daryanne Lees from Cuba is the second Miss Gwand International winner. A dark horse in the competition, she nailed the preliminary competition with her sassy "latina" flavour. At the finals, she penetrated the semi finals and with her oozzzing appeal and strong stage presence, she managed to place in the Top 5. With her natural charm and commendable answer, she ousted the favorites and won the top plum.
Congratulations Miss Cuba.

Congratulations Miss Cuba.
I think your very confused, girl. You said you wanted Cuba to make the top 10 but placed her number 11 in your list. How is she your dark horse? I don't want to start a fight but it would have sounded better had you said "congratulations Miss Cuba, you deserve it" and end of story. We don't really care if your predictions were way off but lets stay true to our convictions.
kagandahan wrote:A dark horse is defined by Webster's dictionary as a competitor who is not expected to win but in the end takes the top prize. I commented that Cuba wasn't your dark horse because you placed her in your top 20 meaning out of the more than 80 girls you narrowed it down to 20 or 25 strong contenders and thought that one of them would be the winner. So obviously, she wasn't an "unexpected" winner. She was not a dark horse. Outside of your top 25 are all the dark horses. That is why I said you were confused, with all due respect to you.
Also, to place her 11th and wished that she makes the top 10, it would mean that you were wrong or unsure about one of the girls in your top 10 list. And I read your comments about each and every girl in your top 10 but you described all of them with certainty that they would make the actual top 10. Nevertheless, good read, fun comments. Thanks for sharing.
I was rooting for Ethiopia but her gown was very distracting and I think that made her lose the title. Next year should be another exciting year. Cheers!

exactly.
Uno expected CUBA to be a semi-finalist and not a contender for the crown.
So, based on your given definition, CUBA was indeed a darkhorse because UNO did not expect her to win but she ended up victorious.

Kindly elaborate who's dictionary did you take the meaning of the Dark Horse....
...is it Merriam or Daniel...?
For your information, there is only one winner...!
And uno predicted only one candidate to win....!
All the rest are, technically, Dark Horses....!
