★★ Miss Supranational 2019: Ian's Assessment ★★

For the past few weeks, 78 beautiful, intelligent, ambitious and confident contestants have been competing in Poland for the glory of being named Miss Supranational 2019 and earning the right to wear crown, sash and of course, claim the responsibilities of such an achievement.

After hosting the official thread since March of this year, I can safely say that this is a very strong batch of women. In fact, I believe that this is the strongest batch of contestants since 2016. I personally cannot wait to see which lucky woman will be crowned by Miss Supranational 2018, Valeria Vazquez Latorre from Puerto Rico, on the 6th December in Poland.

So, in honour of this prestigious event, I have foregone my usual breakdown and decided to go with a full-blown assessment of every one of our stunning ladies.

Image

I'll keep it simple.
A star rating will be our method of assessment. Low is bad, high is great. See what I mean ? Simples.

For those struggling with that though, the following is a simple definition for our star ratings:

Image
This lady is a certified clapper.

Image
This lady could possibly earn a very surprising placement in the Top 25, but honestly, she's more likely stage-filler.

Image
This lady could easily earn her nation a placement in the Top 25. She has put her best foot forward and deserves such recognition, but as of right now, I doubt she will put up a serious fight for the crown.

Image
This lady has a very good chance to enter the Top 10. In fact, many a victorious Queen has come from this category and these ladies are not to be underestimated. They have been closing in on the frontrunners.

Image
In a sane world, these ladies will put up a fight for the crown. These are the ladies who are leading the pack, whether if it was from the start or carving a niche for herself since arriving in Poland.

Image

Image
Image
Albania is an actress and Arta Celaj has such a pretty face, that I think she is another one of our darkhorses that could go a long way in the pageant.

Image
Image
Ugh, that face. Marco Avril has previously represented Argentina at Miss World 2017, where she entered the Top 40. She reminds me of a Hollywood actress, her beauty is that arresting.

Image
Image
Everyone awaits an Aussie beauty. The land down under just comes with that reputation. Alexandra Wallace could indeed pull a surprise but for another year in a row, I'm not quite convinced Australia will put up a fight for the crown. However, Ms. Wallace does have a lot of experience in modelling, so she could rock the runway.

Image
Image
Barbados is represented by Stevie Miles, a model who moved to New York to pursue her passions. Whilst there, she has gotten her education sorted and now hopes to use her beauty and intelligence to compete in Miss Supra.

Image
Image
The Belarusian sash is a powerhouse at Miss Supra and Karolina Borisevich hopes to continue her nation's impressive track record here. She is a qualified lawyer, who majors in conflict resolution. Very articulate and appealing, I'm sure Belarus' streak won't be broken this year.

Image
Image
The capital of the European Union is sending a multi-cultural beauty to represent them. Camilia Martinez is not the expected European Queen, so she brings with her diversity, much needed to the pageantry circle.

Image
Image
One of my absolute sentimental favourites, I think she is the best Bolivian Queens this year. María Elena Antelo Molina doesn't just have a gorgeous face, but she has a passion for environmental protection, brought about by her nation's close proximity to the Amazon. If she was to go very far in this competition, there would be no complaints from me.

Image
Image
Brazil had a great placement last year and I actually thought she should have finished higher. They went with a similar look this year but I don't think Fernanda Souza has the same charisma. She is jovial and pretty, but she struggles with English. I'm not sure that the South American goliath will conquer the Supra crown just yet.

Image
Image
What a black Barbie ! Angèle Kossinda from Cameroon has a lot of experience in pageants and I would love for that knowledge to see her get rewarded.

Image
Image
This half-Filipina beauty, representing the great North American nation of Canada, is a great speaker and will ace her preliminary interview. Gloren Guelos is passionate about reducing child poverty and it will be a big selling point if she can display her charitable experiences. I also enjoyed her bubbly and affable personality. As said above, she could earn the judges approval when she speaks.

Image
Image
Ugh, that face alone. A Chilean Brooke Shields, Katherine Muñoz has the support of two enthusiastic new directors, so I think she has a great chance of really working her way up through the ranks.

Image
Image
Colombia's court in 2018 had a few resignations, so Yaiselle Tous probably did not think she would get to compete abroad. Representing a Goliath in pageantry, she will have many people focused on her. I do not think that it is outside the realms of possibility for her to finally win their first Supra crown. She has a gorgeous face and a sweet personality, matched with a lot of hard earned confidence.

Image
Image
Another introduction video whose Queen showed us her patriotism and the beautiful nation she comes from, I think Lohana Aguilar has improved tremendously since she was first crowned. Costa Rica is not playing this year. She was adorable during the Supra chat sections and was commended by her fellow Queens for her enthusiasm.

Image
Image
There is no doubt that Croatia is being represented by a beautiful woman in the form of Helena Krnetić, but I think she is a bit young and her introduction video gave us very little substance to work with. However, her participation has broadened her horizons. I just don't know has she done enough to stand out.

Image
Image
In 2019, the Czech Republic has not come to mess around. Their representatives in all the major pageants are a force to be reckoned with and Hana Vágnerová may just be the strongest lady from her homeland. A model who has traveled to over 40 nations and she has a strong passion for Moto GP. I thought her confession that when she was 15 she struggled with her mental health, on account of her parent's divorce, was immensely relatable.

Image
Image
She is the woman who I am probably most excited to see on the stage at Miss Supranational. The Dominican Republic has sent a glamazon to represent them and Yaritza Burgos will not disappoint. Her command of English is great and with her dusky, sultry looks, this amateur photographer has everything it takes to pull a surprise 'Top 5' placement, if she plays her cards right.

Image
Image
There was something off in Fernanda Yépez's introduction video. I think it tried to be atmospheric but almost came off comedic. But, I think she has a pretty face and Ecuador will be well represented by her.

Image
Image
The first of our British Queens, the English have Kirsty Lerchundi to fly their flag. In a political climate obsessed with Brexit, she is hopeful to display England's great and important diversity, in all of it's forms.

Image
Image
A surprising victory for Equatorial Guinea's Alba Isabel Obama in the Supra round has seen her named Africa's model Queen. She now has a 1/6 chance of earning the overall Model subsidiary. Well, she has a winner's name, after all.

Image
Image
Hanna Abate is so very pleasant to view and she loves travelling around the globe. She got stuck in an airport once after missing her flight, and this taught her to remain calm in a crisis. Ethiopia would be a strong rock to cling to.

Image
Image
An experienced diver who has clocked over 100 hours in the deep blue, Viivi Altonen wants to show the world that ''Beauty and brains can co-exist !'',. That should be no problem for this Finnish stunner. Her love of sharks resonates with myself, as my favourite animal is the Great White. Her answer around gender equality during her Supra Chat was also nuanced and articulate and an award for Miss Photogenic will see this Scandi beauty in a good position come Friday.

Image
Image
Much more telegenic than she is photogenic, Sheryna Van Der Koelen previously represented Guadeloupe at Miss World 2014 and will now represent France at Miss Supranational. A professional bodybuilder and model, she could certainly pack a punch to the competition !

Image
Image
Germany's Derya Blanket got very emotional discussing her pride in representing her nation and meeting all of her other fellow contestants. It was really lovely to see.

Image
Image
I loved her video and I loved Andrea Radford's depiction of her home nation, Guatemala. She was the undisputed favourite to win her national and the judges did not disappoint. I am not quite sure that Guatemala has ever won a 'Big 5' pageant, but 2019 could be the year when they do ! This law student, who is a self-described feminist, has everything it takes to win the Supra crown. I hope that she can deliver.

Image
Image
Another recent replacement, Schneidine Mondésir will represent little Haiti in the competition. With that adorable face and gorgeous complexion, she would be welcome surprise placement.

Image
Image
I don't know too much about Nicole Ponce, who is representing Honduras. Unfortunately, she set her social media to private, an odd choice if you ask me, for a beauty queen. She is very pretty though. Her grasp of English is not particularly strong but Supra does love a Latina beauty, so I don't think this will hold her back.

Image
Image
Her command of the English language held her back during the Supra chat, but Hungary's Szimonetta Fekszi has a very pretty face and funnier things have happened than a shy but pretty lady earning a high placement.

Image
Image
Little Iceland has sent a gorgeous contestant this year. She was the big favourite to win her nationals but after coming second, Hugrún Birta Egilsdóttir was sent to Poland instead. With her traditional Scandinavian features, Iceland will surely come on strongly for the finals. A martial art teacher, she is not your typical beauty queen, something she is earnest to stress.

Image
Image
Representing the pageant powerhouse of India, Shefali Shood will be aiming for their third crown, as the Asian sub-continent is the only one to have achieved this twice. Undoubtedly beautiful, intelligent and well-spoken, as almost all Indian Queens are, I'm not quite convinced by her just yet, but, I think she could very well finish with a great placement. I also believe she has a sold chance of winning the Influencer subsidiary, automatically earning a placement.

Image
Image
The lady with the baby doll face from Indonesia, Jesica Fitriana comes from a long line of very successful Indonesian's at Miss Supranational. Many of us believe that it was only a matter of time before they won the top plum. Well, will 2019 be the year ? She is backed by one of the strongest organisations in pageantry and her fan base will support her no matter what. If I was a betting man, than Indonesia may take my money this year ! Her face is her strongest asset and her passion for helping children is very commendable.

Image
Image
Ireland is being represented by Irish-American Jessica Van Gaalen. She has plenty of pageant experience, so can this pro bring my home nation our first ever placement at Miss Supranational ? She has a typical American confidence about her and she knows how to answer a question intelligently and to focus on what is being asked, which is not always easy.

Image
Image
Zao Ouhonssio from the Ivory Coast is one of the tallest ladies and will surely stand heads and toes above the rest.

Image
Image
A recently qualified nurse, Kimberly Dawkins from Jamaica has to be seen to be believed. Another candidate who comes off much better in her videos than she does in photos, her jubilant personality is infectious. I really, really hope she keeps up her enthusiasm, because with it, she will go far in the competition.

Image
Image
Bringing the typical Japanese kawaii attitude that Japanese people are famous for, Natsumi Takenaka has one of the most established national organisations behind her and hopefully, she will return her nation to the semi-finals.

Image
Image
A little timid in her introduction video, but Emma Hosea will be looking forward to enlightening many people about Kenyan culture. She hopes to advocate for access to education for both boys and girls.

Image
Image
Laos' Pulatda Saydonekhong is from a mysterious land and has kept herself along that theme. Just like Macau though, I have not dismissed her entirely.

Image
Image
Woah ! This Lituanian Queen will ace her interview rounds, so I am expecting her to place quite easily. Jurate Stasiunaite brings her professional experience, combined with her beauty. Get her near a mic and there will be no stopping her.

Image
Image
I actually think Macau's face is stunning ! Christina Zheng's Eastern Asian features are splendid to behold with no China to be seen. However, I just don't see her being able to make much headway in the interview section.

Image
Image
The small Mediterranean nation of Malta has sent a stunning bombshell to represent them. Rebecca Pace is a model who hopes one day to work in the financial industry. This nation often gets overlooked but I am hoping that this charismatic lass will be able to enter the semi-finals, and who knows, maybe take the ultimate prize. It wouldn't be something to scoff at.

Image
Image
A beautiful woman from a beautiful nation, Urvashi Haurheeram could kick your butt, what with her passion for kickboxing. She is supportive of mental health awareness and believes her home country helps fight it. With those beaches, I see her point. I think she could do quite well in any interview, as her intelligence and grasp of English is quite strong.

Image
Image
After seeing her introduction video, I think Mexico has one of the most beautiful faces in the competition. However, I think Dariana Urist may be a bit pageant patty for me. Still, she has grown exponentially and with that face, she could certainly go higher than this. A win in the Best National Costume doesn't guarantee a placement but it gives her some wind beneath her wings. Just like Venezuela though, I'm not thrilled which circuit she comes from.

Image
Image
A favourite nation of Miss Supranational, I can see Myanmar's placement streak continuing. Although I loved her introduction video, political events in her home nation make me wary of how positive it was. Eaint Myat Chal previously partook in Miss Earth 2015, where she was unplaced. I hope she has more luck with Miss Supranational.

Image
Image
An African nation has yet to conquer the Supranational crown. Namibia's Yana Haenisch is one of the two reasons that could change. Very much in line with beauty Queen's of the 21st Century, she is a girl next door who packs an interesting portfolio. She was the favourite of her national competition, to go to Miss Universe, but we were fortunate to get her instead. Passionate about helping disadvantaged children, she clearly doesn't believe her sashes lack of strength in pageantry should hold her back. I completely agree.

Image
Image
She flew under the radar but make no mistake, the up and coming pageant nation of Nepal has chosen wisely with Rose Lama. Her introduction video was exhilarating and she needs little to look stunning. She won her Supra chat section, and deservedly so.

Image
Image
A former winner of the Miss Tourism Queen International 2015 pageant, Nathalie Mogbelzada will now try her very best to bring the Supranational crown to the Netherlands. A model with plenty of experience in the wide world, will she replicate her previous success ? She won the Elegance subsidiary title and during the Supra chat section, I got the feeling she was one of Valeria's favourite contestants. Personally, I am not feeling a Dutch victory, but she has gained a significant amount of momentum.

Image
Image
Such a cutie pie, Eva Louise Wilson has an amiable face and I think her honestly about pageanty's lack of publicity in her home nation was eye opening. For the love of God, she made her own national costume.

Image
Image
I actually think she could be a darkhorse in the competition. Nigeria's Oluchi Kalu is very bubbly and confident, and those traits could really elevate her in the competition. I think her mic was broken during the Supra chat though, as I found her hard to hear.

Image
Image
The second of our British ladies, Northern Ireland is represented by a lady who was born in Australia but emigrated back to her parent's home nation. Like the rest of English nations, she has an advantage with her language and she is a very confident lass.

Image
Image
She has that quintessential Latina flair about her. Krysthelle Barretto (what a lovely name) from Panama will surely light up the runway come finals.

Image
Image
I loved Katherine Masi Zárate's introduction video. You can really see and feel her passion for all things Paraguayan. One of the youngest contestants, I hope she has gotten to share her love of her home nation with the other women from across the globe. For someone so young though, she has a great deal of confidence.

Image
Image
What a turnaround. A scandal at the start of the year so the original Perusian delegate dethroned and she was a stunner ! Janick Maceta is better and fans have noticed it. She has come in with so much strength and beauty and has maintained this throughout. She has high rankings in both the Fan Vote subsidiary and the Supra chat, so that alone gives her a chance to earn an automatic placement. She believes in women empowerment and it is obvious from her support of her fellow Queens. She also has a great sense of humour. Don't be surprised for this to be straight fight for her.

Image
Image
Not the typical pageant patty lass, the Philippines has sent Resham Ramirez Saeed, a bold, outspoken and intelligent Queen to represent them this year and I absolutely love it. Since Mutya, I feel like they have been coasting by on their sash but this year is definitely different. A second Supra crown is not completely out of the question. I really am obsessed with her articulation and her passion for gender equality, from a Muslim lady no less, gives her a USP like no other.

Image
Image
The homeland is coming prepared this year and with all guns blazing. Kamila Świerc has such a stunning face and is a favourite of her people. With a degree in English communication and working in marketing, she will be a spokesperson that that the organisation would love. Poland has won their own pageant once and if they were to win again this year, many pageant fans would not complain. The photo above speaks for itself and her appeal is apparent in motion.

Image
Image
Portugal's introduction video was short and sweet, but she conveyed her beauty, intelligence and passions clearly. Carolina Liquito, welcome to Miss Supranational 2019 !

Image
Image
Personally, I don't see Miss Supranational having it's first historic B2B win in 2019. However, there is no doubt in my mind that Puerto Rico has not been complacent this year. Shaleyka Vélez is Miss SupraModel Caribbean and won her respective Supra Chat section, which honestly was no surprise to myself. She has been making waves since landing in Warsaw and I think she will have a lot of momentum going into the finals.

Image
Image
Romania has been doing very well at Miss Supranational the last two years and Alexandra Stroe could very easily match her predecessors success. Musically gifted, beautiful and a lady who helps migrant children with integration projects, you would be a fool to ignore Miss Romania ! In fact, she blew me away with her introduction video.

Image
Image
With a passion for cooking, sport and modelling, Russia has Valeriya Skolot to try and earn their first Supra crown. I have no doubt that she will try her best to achieve this. She actually comes with an incredibly strong CV, for one so young.

Image
Image
One of the absolute best introduction videos and with a beautiful face to match, Umunyana Shanitah is also a statuesque Queen and the second reason why Africa could grasp the crown this year. I think she is the best black beauty in the competition and I can see her putting up a fight for the crown. This beauty, who works with charities to help rebuild her nation after the Rwandan Genocide in the 1990's, is a bit reserved but I really am passionate for Supra to have it's first black Queen and if she can just perform on stage, I really do believe she can do it.

Image
Image
Another British Queen, Scotland has Aimee Mcgarvie as it's representative. She is currently learning sign language and with her elegance and glamour, she could very easily earn her nation a placement.

Image
Image
Beauty-wise, this woman is an easy Top 10 placement. She really reminds me of Gabon, 2014. However, with Sierra Leone's track record at international pageantry, I'm worried that Esther Yeanoh Kamara may not even have her visa ready. If she arrives though, eyes on her.

Image
Image
Naomi Huth from Singapore would make a great spokesperson for any company or enterprise. A health and fitness fanatic, she will light the stage on fire during the swimsuit portion.

Image
Image
I actually believe that Slovakia's Natália Hrušovská is one of the most telegenic of the women. I think she is a Supra finalist all over and I think she will do well on the final night.

Image
Image
She conquered a very competitive South African national, so Leyla Van Greuning maybe keeping her cards close to her chest.

Image
Image
They achieved one of the biggest upsets in pageant history in 2017 and yet again, South Korea has sent the gorgeous and articulate Kwon Whee to replicate their success. With that pretty, pretty face, I will not be surprised to see her succeed. A teacher by profession, who felt ostracized in school because she struggled with English, she hilariously cannot cook, but loves to try anyway. God does love a tryer !

Image
Image
A beautiful bombshell, Spain's Aitana Jiménez Zedán maybe young, but she has one of the most sultry looks at the competition. With the right styling, I could see her easily making it this far. Besides her good looks, she also volunteers at an orphanage for young girls, teaching them about personal hygiene and confidence building.

Image
Image
Lovely, but timid, Sri Lanka's Wasana Gunasekar was actually a last minute replacement. She is charming though and with her very appealing beauty, she may very well be among one of the lucky '25'.

Image
Image
The longest reigning Queen, for over a year, Suriname's Sri Dewi Martomamat has heritage from Indonesia and will have a lot of support from both her home country and her ancestral nation. I actually love her natural beauty and can easily see her placing.

Image
Image
Thailand's national pageant was a long time in the making and when it did arrive, they chose the fresh, modern and gorgeous Anntonia Porsild as their representative. I'm expecting big things from her, so I have tentatively given her this ranking, but I know she can go a lot farther. A model and sports fanatic, she comes with a strong sash and an effervescent personality.

Image
Image
When she first won, I was a bit surprised. I would say she comes from one of the best national's in the Supranational circuit, and honestly, she trounced the competition, placing in numerous subsidiaries. After watching her introduction video and viewing her IG, it is easy to see how she captured the hearts of the judges in Trinidad and Tobago. Yia-Loren Gomez could be a surprise placement.

Image
Image
The Turkish always come a bit reserved to pageant but this basketball player may be someone different. Büşra Turan has a towering height too, so let's not dismiss her. She just wants millenials to be happy and confident, which is a sweet and simple message.

Image
Image
Representing Ukraine, Olena Liashuk was the last lady crowned. I'm not so convinced with her.

Image
Image
One of the few nationals that I got to watch this year, it was her night from start to finish. Regina Gray is an impressive speaker, has boatloads of American confidence and if she gets anywhere near the Top 5, the United States could easily have it's first Supra crown.

Image
Image
A pageant veteran, Destani Huffman-Jefferson has a beautiful face. There was some controversy during her crowning, as she wasn't from the territory who she is no representing. I can see her going far, but she has fallen a little silent during the competition.

Image
Image
Representing the heavywight sash of Venezuela, Gabriela De La Cruz will be hoping to earn their first crown. I think that there is a very good chance that this well spoken, intelligent and humble woman could do that. I have misgivings about the national organisation she is representing but that is not something she can help, as the fans of that particular pageant are toxic AF. There is no evidence that the crown has been bought. Cannot same the say for the results in that other 'pageant'.

Image
Image
I have gone back and forth with Miss Vietnam, scratching my head over where she would place ? And then the introduction video was released and we got to see this woman in all her glory. She finished second to Nathalie in the Elegance competition. Not difficult to understand why. Vietnam has been very up and coming over the last decade in pageantry and it would not surprise me to see Ngọc Châu take the Supranational crown for her nation.

Image
Image
The last of our British Queens, representing Wales is Emily Ryan. A fashion blogger, she was hopeful to meet all the different cultures that her fellow contestants brought to the competition. I actually loved her honesty during the Supra chat and actually think she earned herself many extra points, elevating her quite a lot in the competition.

Image
Image
Ugh, I just love the African beauties this year. Mercy Mukwiza represented Zambia at Miss International and although unplaced, she will have gained from her experience there. With gorgeous skin and a passion for the environment, she could work up the tally of African ladies entering the semis.

Very intelligent and detailed analysis. I miss reviews like this on misso. Yes this year Miss Supranational was far more engaging and entertaining. If Miss Universe was not held in December, this pageant could have got best reviews

Having said that Miss Supra team I think is now looking towards Latin countries. I could also see they gave importance to Indonesia and Thailand more. I have a gut feeling that either a latin country be Colombia or Venezuela or an Asian country like Indonesia or Thailand might snatch the crown. May the deserving girl win the crown.

Though my girl is one of the strongest I am not expecting a decent result from this year pageant. They rarely posted her pics on Miss Supra page. #:-S
