The rest, except Catriona, had no tight competition in their years that’s why they won easily. But for Catriona, NO.
I believe that Tamaryn was No. 1 until Top 5.
Tamaryn got distracted going into the EG, as explained by her trainer in the Zoom interview of Bessie Besana with him.Everything went wrong for Tamaryn in the EG just because of a hair extension.

South Africa is heading for historical back to back win and would had been a 3 peat the following year (when Zozibini won in 2019) until the final word.

AS FAR AS I REMEMBER, OXANA FEDOROVA IS A ONE OF THE CHOICES TO WIN, BUT NOT A HEAVY FAVORITE THAT TIME.
AND ZULEYKA RIVERA WAS NOT A FAVORITE (UNTIL SHE WEAR THAT ICONIC GOWN IN THE FINALS)

It's crazy that Tamaryn was no 1 because I was really expecting a lot from Tamaryn that night. She had a great gown and she's obviously very beautiful but performance wise, it's very clear why she didn't win and she's lucky she made it to top 5, let alone top 2.

But yeah, Catriona tripped with her top 5 question but other than that, i think her performance was flawless.
Everything is so finite. But don't you think that that's what makes our time, at specific moments, so important?

I think the marijuana question was very difficult to answer yet she was able to answer it carefully without hurting any sides and made it to the Final 3.

I don't think Tamaryn was no.1 before the top5 with her lackluster evening gown performance. I think it was Cat that is why even with her safe top 5 answer, she made it to the top3.

The only one who won the crown from day one. The rest had to compette for the runner up positions. No other Miss Universe delegate in history received the same treatment and reception from the fans and the press from the first day of their arrival. Catriona continued to dominate Tamaryn and the rest even during the daily pre-pageant activities like the silkworm visit and the Thai night. Now if we just based it on the finals itself, Tamaryn and the rest did not stand a chance after Catriona delivered the most powerful, almost perfect speech. No, not even if Tamaryn's had the same gown performance during the Miss South Africa finals could put her on the top spot.

I think RIYO MORI's win was only a correction for the mistake they made for last year's decision (2006). Many people are disappointed for Kuara Chibana's finish.

I thought Catriona looked better with her make up and hair during Binibini than in Miss Universe. In Miss Universe, her hair was a mess and her Top 5 Q&A honestly made me nervous if She'll make it to Top 3.
I thought Venezuela topped the EG while Vietnam topped the Swimsuit. By popularity, it was an easy win for her.

Paulina Vega had no competition.
Oxana had not competition the moment she was called in the Top 10.
Lara hands down easy win.
Denise Quinones also had no competition that night.

Lara Dutta was able to easily won Miss Universe 2000 because the strong contender Martina Thorogood unable to compete because of her 1st Runner Up status at Miss World 1999?

Re: The top 5 easiest wins at Miss Universe

Postby poker_man » Sun Jun 14, 2020 11:37 am

From those that I was able to watch, the five easiest wins are:

5. Miss Universe 2017 - Demi was unstoppable. There was no other choice.

4. Miss Universe 1996 - I remember watching this. Alicia was the best, the rest were forgettable.

3. Miss Universe 2014 - Everyone knew that it was Paulina's moment ever since she was crowned. I thought Jamaica can pull an upset but then again, she was shut out after Q&A.

2. Miss Universe 1995 - The late great Chelsi Smith was so graceful, I remember watching Miss USA 1995 and I knew she was the one to beat.

1. Miss Universe 2002 - No words needed to explain how Oxana won.

I disagree with Zuleyka, she may be a favorite but there were other really strong girls that year. Catriona was a Denise Quinones situation, if it weren't for the Pinoy judges she will only be another Top 5 finish, just like Australia in 2015 and in many years prior. Her Q&A is overrated as hell. I would have believed Dayana was an easy win but Taliana's scores were among the highest scores ever, Dayana exagerrated everything during the prelims and that was so tacky to me.

As far as "easiest win" that I can remember, nothing could beat Lupita Jones' victory at the 1991 Miss Universe, which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada!

1. Lupita (1991)
2. Lara (2000)
3. Cecilia (1987)
4. Denise (2001)
5. Alicia (1996)
6. Angela (1989)
7. Paulina (2014)
8. Porntip (1988)
9. Amelia (2003)
10. Catriona (2018)

I would have included her, but it's the 1986 edition that I saw on TV for the first time. Editions prior to that were just based on YouTube. But yes, Yvonne was indeed an easy victory! It's like the whole competition was anchored to her no matter what she did or did not do.

I always believe from the moment Catriona set foot in Thailand, the crown was hers already. No other competition. Even her Top5 answer was good enough for a difficult question. Tamaryn or Kiki or anyone were just competing for no 2. Despite her lackluster evening gown, it was a surprise to see Tamaryn advance. Coz if they chose another queen to stand last with Catriona, they would look mediocre. Even Tamaryn looked unsure of herself when she stood with Catriona. Catriona had the winning aura while Tamaryn looks like she knew, she lost it.
